Elements for a modular reporting against the Aichi Biodiversity Targets

A key objective of the CBDs 6th national reports, due in 2019, is to evaluate the progress towards achieving the Aichi Biodiversity Targets. As a number of national reports to other Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs) as well as other reports from regional and global assessment processes are due before 2019, opportunity exists for the CBD to draw on information that will be collected through other reporting processes. As a consequence, countries would not need to report on this as it is reported elsewhere.

Reviewing the information categories and reporting mechanisms of the existing processes can inform the design of an effective modular reporting format and process for the 6th national reports to the CBD, while at the same time identifying options for further alignment of reporting processes in the view of a post 2020 biodiversity agenda.
