Nagoya Protocol on Access to Genetic Resources and the Fair and Equitable Sharing of Benefits Arising from their Utilization to the Convention on Biological Diversity
Welcome to the Swiss ABS Clearing House.
The Swiss ABS Clearing House is the information node on Access to Genetic Resources and the Fair and Equitable Sharing of Benefits Arising from their Utilization (ABS). Its aim is to facilitate the exchange of scientific, technical and legal information on ABS between parties and the general public.
The Swiss information portal is based on the Bonn Guidelines on ABS and will, after entry into force of the Nagoya Protocol, provide information according to Article 14 of the Protocol.
The Federal Council adopted the message to the Parliament on the approval of the Nagoya Protocol on 10 April 2013.

International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (ITPGRFA) The International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture was adopted by the Thirty-First Session of the Conference of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations on 3 November 2001. Its objectives are the conservation and sustainable use of plant genetic resources for food and agriculture and the fair and equitable sharing of benefits derived from their use, in harmony with the Convention on Biological Diversity, for sustainable agriculture and food security. In Switzerland, the Federal Office for Agriculture FOAG is in charge of implementing the treaty.
The ITPGRFA is currently regulating the Access and Benefit-sharing of 64 cultivated plants. The Nagoya protocol does not apply to the crop plants listed in Annex I of the ITPGRFA. |
